How does a convector heater work and what’s the difference between a convector and a radiator?

The heating element of convector heaters consists of a copper pipe, through which the water flows, and aluminium plates. The heating element is protected by a decorative body.

The water transfers its heat to the pipe;
In turn, it heats the aluminium plates;
Сold air flows upwards through the appliance and is heated by the aluminium plates and the copper pipe, and exits the device warm.

A radiator, as the name suggests, radiates heat, which means that it is very hot near the device, and quite cold far away from it. Unlike radiators, convector heaters manufactured by Isoterm Firm JSC employ convection as a heating method, which means that the air circulates and is heated naturally, which ensures that the space is evenly warm.

Why is a convector heater better than a radiator?

Convector heaters have a number of advantages compared to regular radiators:

Since the temperature of a convector’s body is never as high as a radiator’s, convector heaters can be installed directly into the floors, under the finishing material. This engineering solution is employed when convector heaters are installed in doorways or in spaces with panoramic glazing. Due to the architectural and design features of such spaces, installing stationary radiators is rendered impossible.

Due to their structural features, hot-water convectors heat the air more evenly and quickly than radiators, thus making convector heaters much more energy-efficient.

Moreover, since the temperature of a convector's body is lower in comparison to radiators, the possibility of burns is completely eliminated, which makes convector heaters perfect for families with children.

Which convector heaters are best suited for spaces with panoramic glazing or low windows?

Panoramic glazing has its advantages and disadvantages. The main disadvantages include significant heat losses that occur due to the fact that thermal conduction of glass is a lot higher than thermal conduction of walls. As a result, the use of energy-efficient heating systems is necessary in such spaces. It is worth noting that installing regular radiators in front of panoramic windows negates their aesthetic advantages.

Offered solutions:

in floor trench convector heaters of Gulf Stream series successfully solve the problem of heating rooms, where installing more traditional appliances is made difficult due to the lack of available space (e.g. in rooms with low windows);
in spaces with low windows, where installing in floor trench convectors is impossible, convector heaters of Coral series are the next best option. Coral series convectors are of the lowest height in our range. The height of wall convector heaters of Coral series is from 8 cm, while on floor convectors are from 15 cm in height (including the legs);
skirting convector heaters effectively heat the air in front of windows and, having the height of 14 cm, do not obscure the view

Can hot-water convector heaters be used in spaces with high humidity levels?

There are two series in the range of appliances manufactured by Isoterm Firm JSC that can be installed in spaces with high humidity. They are Gulf Stream and Gulf Stream-V series, with natural and forced convection respectively. Gulf Stream series convector heaters have a galvanized steel body and a copper-aluminium heating element, which makes these appliances extremely corrosion-resistant, and, hence, a great choice for spaces with high humidity.

Gulf Stream series heating appliances are installed into the floor. The water temperature in these convector heaters can reach 130°С, whereas the temperature of their body never exceeds 43°С. Gulf Stream convector heaters are very safe, can be installed in swimming pools and be walked on even barefoot.

Gulf Stream-12V in floor convector is a hot-water heating appliance with forced convection. The air flows through the heating element with the help of tangential fans. These appliances are powered by a 12V DC mains. KVOK (KVOKP) body of the convector heater has a decline and drainage pipes, that help get rid of any condensate or water. Hence, these convector heaters will not break, even if flooded, and can be installed in close proximity to the water source. Gulf Stream-12V are equipped with air exhaust valves. Convector heaters that are more than 4 meters in length consist of two parts. Gulf Stream-12V can come in a stainless body.

What kind of packaging is used to deliver your appliances? Is it safe for intercity delivery?

The packaging provided by the manufacturer is made of corrugated cardboard and has reinforced corners. We recommend ordering an additional service called “additional wooden crate” from the transport company for intercity delivery.

Yes, the price does include VAT. You will not need to pay more than it is shown on our website.

What is the manufacturing time for your appliances?

Average manufacturing and delivery time is 18 days, which applies to both legal entities and individuals.

The manufacturing process starts provided that the order is 100% prepaid.

In what colours can convector heaters be painted?

Not only can convector heaters manufactured by Isoterm Firm JSC efficiently heat the space, but they also can look great in any interior, due to the variety of the colour palette. Upon the client’s request, the appliance can be painted in more than 200 colours of the RAL palette, including luminescent and metallic colours.

What kind of weight can the grilles of the Gulf Stream convector heaters withstand?

Our engineers have designed the grilles to withstand 120 kilos in the middle of the device.

How do I control the power of an in floor trench convector heater? Is it possible to equip it with a thermal control set, as it is done with other heating appliances?

If you have an in floor convector heater with natural convection (without a fan), it is equipped with conventional thermal valve, but, instead of a regular thermal control head, it is connected to a remote control and a control panel (which is installed on the wall), or to a special thermostat from our range, that features a remote control and a capillary tube. This thermostat is also installed on the wall, at a distance determined by the length of the tube.

If you have a convector heater with forced convection (with a fan), then the easiest way to control it is using the TA3 thermal control system, which only controls the fan. Or, if the convector heaters are equipped with a Zentec zone control system (that has a controller and a control panel), the heat produced by the appliance can be regulated by both controlling the fan, and the amount of water flowing through the heating element.

How much noise does the Gulf Stream in floor convector produce?

The noise produced by an active convector heater is no louder than the one produced by a computer or an AC. It is so quiet that one would need to turn off other sources of noise in the space to hear it. Even higher levels of comfort can be achieved by installing either manual, or automatic control systems, which allow to decrease the noise levels (e.g. during the night) so much so that the noise becomes undetectable.

Furthermore, using such control systems allows to regulate the heat flow and make the work of heating appliances completely automatic. With the help of Eco-mode, which automatically lowers the temperature of the appliance during the night or when there are no people in the space, the energy costs can be decreased by 30%.

Noise and power levels of the appliance depend on the fan speed. Therefore, we recommend choosing a heating appliance while taking into account its power and favoring devices with lower fan speed. Hence, if chosen thoroughly, the convector heater will produce the minimum amount of noise while effectively heating your space. It is also important to take note of the fact that the fans of an in floor trench convector heater do not work continuously. Their work mode can be compared to that of a refrigerator. They turn on, then off, then on again.

What can be used to cover the seam between the convector heater and the tile?

There are two options: you can either purchase a decorative section sold in hardware stores, or think ahead and order a convector heater with an F-shaped border.

The price of an in floor trench convector shown in your pricelist drastically changes depending on which grille I select. What does a grille affect and how to choose one?

The only thing that the decorative grille affects is how the convector heater looks in the interior. It does not change the technical characteristics of the appliance, which means that it will heat the space just as efficiently no matter which grille you choose. Therefore, the choice of the grille solely depends on the interior of the space and your budget.

How to position the in floor convector heater with a fan correctly? So that a fan would be located towards the glass or towards the room?

You should focus on the heat exchange element when positioning the convector heater. It can be installed both ways: with a fan facing the windows, or with it facing the space. If the former is what you opt for, the warm air will first flow upwards heating the glass, then it will move towards the room. In turn, the windows will never be fogged and you will always enjoy the beautiful view from them. If the latter is what you choose, the warm air will flow directly towards the space. We would advise you to take into account the following recommendations:

If the power of the appliance does not suffice to heat the room and maintain a comfortable temperature in it, it would be best to position the convector heater so that the fan would face the room.

If you are certain that it does, position the appliance so that the fan would face the window.

What should the distance between the window and the Gulf Stream in floor convector be?

The edge of the convector’s body should be located 80-200 mm away from the glass. If the distance between the convector and the glass is less, there might be a risk of high temperature damaging the window frame. If the distance between the appliance and the glass is more than 200 mm, the warm air flow will not heat the glass, which means that it could fog.

How do I choose an in floor trench convector heater?

When are facade convectors used?

Hot-water facade convector heaters are used for spaces with a significant glazing area. Facade convectors are installed into transoms and are the best solution for stopping the cold air flow coming from the windows. Installing facade convector heaters in one or several tiers is possible, while it depends on the height of the glass facades.

The convection helps heat the air evenly in the whole space, which makes for a comfortable microclimate in it.
